7 Dos and Don’ts of Vape Filling

7 Dos and Don’ts of Vape Filling

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of cannabis products like vapes, pre-rolls, and solventless concentrates, we have filled millions of vape carts and all-in-one devices. Through this experience we have developed serious expertise in vape filling. We have worked closely with other industry leaders like Thompson Duke to help optimize their filling platforms, and we also developed our proprietary filling system which we believe is the world’s most advanced filling solution. We asked our crack production team to give us (and you) the seven most important Dos and Don'ts when it comes to vape filling to save some time and make sure you don’t spoil the oil!

Without further ado, here are the 7 Dos and Don'ts of vape filling:

7 Dos of Vape Filling:

  1. Trust but verify! Verify your oil has been properly decarbed (decarboxylated) and off-gassed before filling - trapped gasses lead to aspiration (foaming and/or bubbling) of the oil in the filling systems which can lead to inaccurate fills.
  2. Measure twice; Blend once - always verify formulation calculations are correct before production.
  3. Inspect! Inspect! Inspect, and then inspect again! Before filling, inspect your  vape hardware to ensure no foreign matter is in the reservoir, once you begin filling, regularly inspect hardware to ensure they have been capped properly and no leaks are evident.
  4. Cleanliness is next to godliness! Keep your workspace clean during production to prevent cross contamination.
  5. Don’t set it and forget it! Verify the correct settings are being used for the oil being dispensed and hardware being filled - each input material is different, especially when you have several formulations and rely on third-party vendors for your materials.
  6. Check the weight before it’s too late! Verify the fill weight is within specification prior to beginning production and throughout the filing process - drift is common and should be taken into account
  7. Metrology 101. Verify the scales in use are compliant with AHJ regulations, calibrated, and weight checked prior to production - this will ensure weight measurements are validated and data is accurate.

7 Don'ts of Vape Filling:

  1. Can you hear me now? Don't ignore the 7 Dos! 🙂
  2. Play it cool! Don’t overheat the cannabis oils, this will degrade the product and degrade quality.
  3. Safety first! Don't touch material without proper PPE - the most common source of contamination is you.
  4. Practice makes perfect! Don’t allow technicians to use equipment or handle material without proper training. Training mitigates the risk of product loss and reduces liability.
  5. Trust the science! Don’t use untested inputs, lab testing is your first and last line of defense.
  6. Slow is steady, steady is fast! Don’t continue production if an issue occurs: stop; evaluate; and fix. A little bit of down time now is MUCH less expensive than a product recall later.
  7. Make time for your wellness or you’ll be forced to make time for your illness! Don’t let your equipment fall into a state of disrepair; your fillers are the lifeblood of your operation; take good care of them and they will take care of you. Never use damaged, broken, or unqualified equipment.

For Jungle Boys, Palm Springs served as their official Hall of Flowers debut, marking the first time that Jungle Boys products were made available to California cannabis retailers outside of their owned or affiliated dispensaries.

For dosist, another acclaimed brand that has received accolades from the likes of TIME Magazine and Fast Company, the event was the perfect opportunity to showcase their latest products. In this case, the highlights were a special holiday edition of their popular Arouse gummies, and an upgraded version of their all-in-one dose pens, which now combine the purest high potency distillate with single strain live resin terpene extracts.

Sherbinskis–masterminded by pioneer and industry legend, Mario Guzman–proved once more that its long-standing place in the market is beyond justified. Offerings included a diverse variety of gelato strains as well as the classic Sunset Sherbet. Sherbinskis was certainly one of the centerpieces of our showcase.

To cap it all off, Headwaters, a long-time, premium cultivator that’s been sourcing some of the top brands in cannabis for years, took the leap and had a beyond successful debut for their own, first-ever set of retail brands: Mr. Zips and the eponymous Headwaters. The latter geared towards the premium segment, and the former geared towards the value segment.

The stimulation of in-person connection, as well as the thrill of direct engagement with the products, make for an exciting and inspiring experience. That’s something many people have been missing during the pandemic. Come get a feel for it yourself next May, during the latest edition of Hall of Flowers, Palm Springs.
